Muscut (est. 2012, Kyiv) – is a label focused on modern avant-garde Eastern European artists (Chillera, Pavel Milyakov, Mlin Patz, Bryozone, Indirect etc.), focusing on pseudo and practical audio archaeology.
Nicola Ratti is a multifaceted musician and sound designer who has been active for years in various experimental fields. His sound production creates systems that take shape from repetition and expansion, with particular attention to the construction of environments that gravitate in relation to the space and architecture we live in and balance the emotional and perceptual orientations we are used to.
Born in Milan in 1978, he has performed in Europe, North America, Russia and Japan and his albums have been released by different labels since 2006. Beside his solo career he is also part of other collaborative projects such as Bellows, NR/MA, What we do when in silence. As composer and sound designer his works cross different fields from theatre to cinema passing through performing arts, radio works and sound art. He was one of the co-founders and members of Standards, an artist-run centre focused on sound and space active in Milan from 2015 to 2022. Since March 2023, he has been a professor of Sound Space Design at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.
Nikolaienko is a Ukrainian sound artist currently based in Tallinn, Estonia. Dmytro works mainly with outdated musical gear, which he uses to produce tape and cassette loops as a base material for his sound collages, like in his recent album “Rings” (2021), released on Jan Jelinek’s Faitiche label. He also has releases and appearances on such labels as 12th Isle, Graphical, Porridge Bullet, Kvitnu, Nexsound, Muscut and others.
At the same time, Dmytro Nikolaienko is also a founder of Muscut and a co-founder of Shukai – an archival label focused on bringing back to life the lost tapes from the underrated artists persecuted by censorship of Soviet period (Valentina Goncharova, Volodymyr Bystriakov, Shapoval Sextet etc.).
